10 tips for that natural skin glow
With so much information out there about beauty routines, essential vitamins, ingredients and self-care remedies, it can often be overwhelming and hard to filter what's most important for your skin routine! We share our 10 pieces of beauty advice to maintain naturally glowing skin, all year round.
Good Skin Comes From Within
Incorporating skincare with ingredients which boost hydration and cell growth is vital in maintaining that fresh, rejuvenated glow all year round. However, your lifestyle also has a huge effect on the appearance of your skin, so it's crucial to maintain a healthy, balanced lifestyle with these daily lifestyle tips below.
- Sleep
It's one beauty trick that doesn't cost anything but can make a world of difference to every person and their lifestyle. Skin creates collagen when you sleep, which prevents sagging and stimulates new cell growth. Sleep gives your body (including your skin) time to repair itself, so without at least seven hours per night, this may reduce healing, increase inflammation-causing breakouts, acne and eczema. - Sun Protection
Despite the fact that moderate sun exposure is important to gain Vitamin D, any further sun exposure, is largely considered harmful to the skin. With repeated sun damage, the skin starts to look dry, wrinkled, discoloured, and leathery. Try to use a 50+ moisturiser on your face when outdoors, as well as a sunscreen lotion for your body. - Hydration
As 60% of the human body is made up of water, drinking at least two litres a day is absolutely essential to maintaining that natural glow all year round. Drinking enough water helps the body to flush out toxins while giving you healthier-looking skin, by increasing blood flow to the skin which gives it an even tone. It also improves the elasticity of the skin, reducing blemishes, cracks and signs of ageing. - Positive Self-Talk
The stress hormone cortisol can have huge effects on the overall appearance of your skin, affecting its brightness and evenness. Even though life has its ups and downs, it's so important to maintain a healthy and positive mindset. Make a daily ritual of practising positive skin affirmations to have healthy, vibrant, and beautiful skin to remind yourself how amazing you are despite what life may throw at you at times!
A Daily Skincare Routine
The best way to establish a skincare routine that you will stick to, is to keep it simple, and use products that address your concerns. This is what works for us.
- Morning Cleanse
Incorporating a consistent daily routine is vital to maintaining that natural glow. We recommend you use the Konjac Sponge to cleanse the skin and remove any excess oils or products from the skin overnight, creating a clean and fresh base to apply my moisturiser and make-up to get camera ready! - Night Routine and Overnight Face Mask
For the evening routine, the Aqua Surge Overnight Face Mask is the ultimate skincare product to boost hydration, leaving my skin feeling smooth, plump and refreshed when you wake up! A light coating of this product prevents dirt and dust from closing in on your pores and locks in your other active products, letting all the vital ingredients work their magic without evaporating away. - Extend your skin care to your hands
While it's vital to treat the skin on your face, don't forget to also give your hands a little TLC. After all, they are also quick to show signs of ageing! We recommend you use a clay mask on your hands, and then follow it up with the Dermalume Hand Therapy cream to keep them hydrated.
Focus on the right skincare Ingredients. These are ours!
My favourite ingredients are:
- Chamomile
Chamomile has some excellent anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, and when applied topically can help fade spots, eliminate acne scars and fight breakouts. Use the Hydration Sheet Mask to boost your skin's healthy, natural glow and see/feel immediate results! - Licorice
Even if you don't love licorice all sorts, you should seriously consider including this sweet ingredient in your daily skincare routine, where it can help to reduce inflammation and redness and naturally lighten skin by soothing sensitivity. - Uva Ursi Leaf Extract
This herbal extract (also known as Bearberry) has been used in traditional native American medicine, for years. But we love including it in our skincare regime because it has a well-documented ability to brighten skin, heal UV damage, and banish sunspots.
Bonus Tips: How to feel confident in your skin
Now that we've got the ingredients and daily routines down pat, it's time to talk about how to create a consistent routine for healthy skin to be camera-ready any day of the week! Living in the age of smartphones, we're often taking selfies and jumping into Zoom meetings so it's important to always feel confident on camera.
- Prep Your Skin: When you're taking a photo or video, any dead skin cells on your face won't reflect light. That makes your complexion appear dull. To prepare your skin, begin by cleansing with a gentle, non-irritating exfoliant. Don't use rough or scratchy scrubs that may damage your skin or leave it red and irritated. Try the Konjac Sponge for a deep clean remedy.
- Lighting: Make sure that the lighting is flattering on your skin type, and doesn't make you feel overexposed or underexposed.
- Feel Good To Look Good: When choosing your wardrobe, don't stress. Wear something that makes you feel confident and beautiful, and that beauty and confidence will translate to the camera
